STJS Music Lessons

Dear Music teachers and musicians,

The Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society (STJS) is again offering its annual Music Lesson Award program to interested music students for the purpose of developing the ability to play and enjoy traditional American jazz- an original, cultural art form that is important to preserve. Awards are in the form of paid music lessons on the standard instruments used in jazz performance. Instruments include (but not limited to): trumpet, cornet, trombone, clarinet, sax, piano, banjo, guitar, bass, tuba, drums, and vocals. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of their interest in traditional jazz, demonstrated by a written biography and letter of recommendation, and an in-person audition on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Auditions are by APPOINTMENT ONLY- no drop-ins. Please review the attached flyer/application and mail your biography and letter of recommendation to the address listed NO LATER THAN February 19th. Upon receipt of your application packet, you will be notified as to your specific audition time and the audition requirements.

Awards are in the form of paid music lessons on the standard instruments used in jazz performance. If students do not already have a private music instructor one will be assigned to them for the purpose of fulfilling these lessons.
