CMEA CAPITOL SECTION HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL HONOR CHOIR
APPLICATION and INFORMATION School Year 2007- 2008

The annual CMEA Capitol Section Honor Choir performance will take place on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 4:00 PM in Fremont Presbyterian Church, located across the street from C.S.U.S. in Sacramento. Please read these instructions carefully to assist your students in participating in this incredible learning experience. We must receive confirmation of your participation from you postmarked no later than Friday, November 16th. Applications that are not postmarked by the due date will be returned.

GUEST CONDUCTORS

We have engaged Dr. Julie Ford from Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, to serve as the guest conductor for the High School Honor Choir. This is her second time to direct the Capitol Section honor choir. Mark Lanford, from Clovis High School in Clovis, CA, will be conducting the middle school choir. We are honored that these generous people will share their enthusiasm, artistry and expertise with our students this year.

STUDENT PARTICIPATION

High schools may send individual SATB quartets, consisting of a soprano, alto, male tenor and male bass from each program to ensure the appropriate voicing for the Honor Choir. You may send as many well prepared quartets as you like. If your program does not have the required quartets, but has one or two very deserving singers, please contact Arianne Aguilera through the email address below before sending any applications.

Middle schools please send well prepared trios of SAB or SSA (please don't send SSAB). Please note that there is a separate application for middle school this year. Our conductor this year was known for his boys' choirs when he taught middle school so this year more than ever we really encourage you to send boys. However, we may have to emphasize SSA music again if we are lacking in numbers in the baritone section.

TEACHER PARTICIPATION

Teachers are expected to ACTIVELY participate in some aspect of the Sacramento Honor Choir and appear at the concert in order to demonstrate support of their students and this choir. We are asking each director to come to the first rehearsal and director's meeting, and at least half of the day for both Saturday rehearsals. We will be contacting you regarding the duties that need to be fulfilled - we really need everyone to pitch in and help. We need sectional leaders, pianists, runners, supervisors, ushers, tickets and program makers, and many more things as we prepare these choirs for their performances. Please attend the director's meeting on January 31st.

SCHEDULE

All members of the CMEA Capitol Section Honor Choir are required to know their music in advance of the mandatory rehearsal schedule below. The schedule has changed from previous years, please look at it carefully! Absence from any rehearsal will automatically expel the student from the honor choir. (Last year I think many students were surprised by this rule. The choir was much smaller at the concert than it was at the first rehearsal. Please emphasize this rule to your students before they make the commitment to Honor Choir.) Study CD's will be provided, but we are counting on you as their teacher to help the students faithfully learn the repertoire.
